One Person Confirmed Dead, One person injured in Martin County Suspected Tornado Sunday afternoon

MARTIN COUNTY - JUNE 26, 2023 - One person has been confirmed to have died in a suspected tornado on Sunday afternoon in Martin County.



At least one other person has been injured, according to officials in Martin County, as emergency personnel continued to search for victims.


Emergency personnel from Martin and Orange County was dispatched to the scene to help remove debris from a person trapped in a residence. Downed power lines, and trees made the reaching the victim difficult.


Searchers continued to try to find one person reported missing, and looking for other victims that might have been injured.


The National Weather Service has not confirmed this as an actual tornado at this time.


The storms that passed through the area has damaged the "Dome" at the French Lick Resorts after hail has broken the glass of the Dome. The Resort area remains open, however the area around the Dome remains closed.


Hail reportedly broke the glass to several vehicles as it passed over the French Lick and West Baden area of Orange County. No injuries were reported in Orange County at this time.


A tornado was sighted in the Crane and Odon area in Daviess County, causing damage in the area and closing Interstate -69 for several hours.


In Johnson County, there are reports of a tornado touch down in the Stones Crossing area, and a tornado touchdown near Morgantown area.


In Greene, and Monroe County a tornado possibly touching down in that area causing power outages, damage to homes and leaving trees and debris covering the area.


At this time no injuries have been reported in Monroe County that Lawrence County Zephyr can confirm at this time.
