Second lawsuit filed against North Lawrence Community School in April on behalf of former staff member

BEDFORD - MAY 4,2024 - A second lawsuit was filed in Lawrence County Circuit Court with former North Lawrence Community School employee Tawyna Jones filing the case against the North Lawrence Community Schools on April 9, 2024.





Tawnya Jones began working for North Lawrence Community Schools on August 3, 1997. Jones final position was an administrative staff member. The final compensation that the NLCS agreed to pay was $ 18.77 per hour on a bi-weekly basis.


Jones earned vacation wages while working for NLCS and Jones earned vacation wages while working for NLCS. The school year begining on July 1 to the following June 30th.


Jones was a 52 -Week position with the school corporation.


According to the lawsuit the NLCS failed to pay Jones more than 120 hours earned vacation hours earned hours which is 120 hours vacation hours.


Jones alleges the NLCS did not have faith basis for basis to failing to pay.


Cause of Action Count I Wage Payment Statute, I.C. §22-2-5 et. seq.


20. Plaintiff incorporates paragraphs 1 through 19 by reference herein.


21. Defendant is an employer pursuant to the Wage Payment Statute. 22. Defendant failed to pay Plaintiff her wages due and owing 120 hours.


23. Defendant failed to make a contribution to the Indiana Public Employee Retirement Fund on behalf of Plaintiff based upon the earned vacation wages


. 24. Plaintiff has been damaged by Defendant’s violations of the Wage Payment Statute.



Page 2 of 3 WHEREFORE, Plaintiff prays that the Court enter a Judgment in favor of Plaintiff and against Defendant for wages owed, contribution to the Plaintiff’s PERF, liquidated damages, prejudgment interest, attorney fees, costs of this action, and for all other relief which is just and proper in the premises.


The total amount of gross wages is $2,252.40 and NLCS failed to make contribution on Jones's behalf.


Jones being represented by Attorney Ronnald Weldy of Weldy Law Fishers, Indiana and North Lawrence Community Schools being represented by James G. Pittman. This make the second lawsuit filed against NLCS in the month of April.


NLCS has not filed a response to the lawsuit in the former NLCS Superintendent Dr. Thomas Mungle on his claims of defamation.
