Mitchell Mayor Don Caudell " Today is a momentous occasion for our city" as the groundbreaking ceremony will open Economic Growth to the city

MITCHELL - MAY 2, 2024 - A partnership between the City of Mitchell, Lawrence County Redevelopment, and Lawrence County will hopefully bring Economic Development to the small Southern Indiana city.

" Today is a momentous occasion, that will bring growth to our city," said Mitchell Mayor Don Caudell.

Those attending believe this is what is needed to spur growth to the city of just under 4,000 residents.

" The original vision to put a shell building was back in 2007. My predecessor had it all laid out and designed and what does it look like. One of my biggest struggles has been available property to sell to companies. Companies would call seeking 30,000, 40,000, 70,000 square feet and 95 -100 vacant areas I would tell them I have nothing for them unless you want to build," said Shance Sizemore Lawrence County Economic Growth Council.

" Now if they say we can be operational in 6-8 months," added Sizemore.

The project has been awarded to GM Development LLC. Corporation and Runnebohm Construction on the project by the Lawrence County RDC.

The building itself will be a total of 50,000 square feet metal fronted building on approximately 15 acres.

" I think going with the metal structure vs, concrete matches better with the industrial park where we are going to put it," said Wally Branham Lawrence County RDC member.

The building will have four docks, as well as an overhead door. The parcel of land the City of Mitchell will turn over to the RDC will allow the building to expand up to 200,000 sq. feet if expansion of a business is needed.

" There has been a lot of effort put into this, and we are enthused, we are really proud of the relationship with the City of Mitchell and coming together to do this kind of project. Hopefully, have a great impact for jobs, revenue, better community, better quality of life for the area," said Scott Smith four year member of the Lawrence County Redevelopment Commission.
