MITCHELL - FEBRUARY 14, 2024 - The community and supporters are invited for a free performance by the Mitchell High School 2024 Winter Guard Friday February 23rd at 6:15 pm. at the Mitchell High School Gym.
The group however is accepting donations to support the program.

Honoring Mitchell's Gus Grissom their Hometown Hero how could not the town of Mitchell be proud of these boy/ girls who's routine honoring Mitchell's and Lawrence County's first astronaut.
Saturday marked the 57th Anniversary of his death.

The performance was "One Small Step' a tribute to the original Mercury Astronaut and Mitchell, Indiana's Virgil "Gus" Grissom.

By chance or by higher intervention the group received the honor on the 57th Anniversary of the accident and fire on pad 34 during the one test that claimed the lives of Astronauts Chaffee, White and Mitchell's own "Gus" Grissom.
The performance ends with the guards placing a flag " on the moon" and brought it home.
The team competing against nine other teams in the Region A Competition with a score of 55.980.
