BEDFORD - AUGUST 17, 2023 - The North Lawrence Community School board approved the hiring of Matthew Canada as the next Bedford- North Lawrence School principal during their meeting Thursday night.

" I am honored and humbled to serve our staff there, as well as students and community. Our goal is to build culture and community among our teachers and staff. We want to bring pride to our school, we are the STARS," said Canada.
Education and graduation is important to Mr. Canada, " we want that to mean something when the student graduates Bedford-North Lawrence High School. One of the things we care about is the comprehensive needs of all of our students. These includes intellectual pursuits, social and emotional needs and those experiences that come with being a high school student," Canada explained.
The current graduation rate for Bedford North Lawrence High School is 86% with the goal of reaching 93 %.
" We want every student that comes to BNLHS to graduate. This is our ultimate goal, and their education to mean something. We will strive to move that number upwards in that ds direction as we connect with kids,"
" There are many factors that go into highlighted a student that will need additional supports. Whether this being social, emotional or academic supports or mentor/peer supports we must be able to identify those and get the students engaged in the academics." said Canada.
BNLHS is the largest high school in Lawrence County with approximately 1,300 students a year.
