Seals Ambulance will no longer be providing ambulance coverage to Lawrence County Dec. 16th

LAWRENCE COUNTY - NOVEMBER 18, 2022 - Seals ambulance service will no longer be providing ambulance coverage at or on December 16, 2022.

This comes after the closing of St. Vincent Dunn Hospital who contracted with the company to provide ambulance transportation out of their facility, and the Lawrence County 911 Board decided that IU Lifeline Ambulance Service should be the 911 contracted ambulance service.


St. Vincent Dunn Hospital will be closing next month and Seals Ambulance Service will not be providing ambulance coverage starting December 16th in Lawrence County


IU Lifeline Ambulance Service will be paid $400,000 a year, with one ALS (Advance Life Support) ambulances, two BLS (Basic Life Support) ambulances and one Squad non-transport vehicle with a paramedic.


Seals Ambulance employees was advised of the discontinuation of service in a meeting today.


Lawrence County Commissioners authorized Lawrence County Emergency Management Director Valarie Luchuaer to enter into contract negotiations with IU Lifeline Ambulance Service. At this time, the contract for ambulance service has not been voted on by the Lawrence County Commissioners.


Ambulance coverage has been a concern over the last four years without ambulance being available to respond to emergencies in Lawrence County. Response times in the City of Bedford and rural parts of the county have been more than 45 minutes.
