Multiple Orange County fire departments battle house fire north of Paoli on Sandy Hook Road

PAOLI - NOVEMBER 2, 2023 - Multiple Orange County fire departments are the scene of a large house fire on Sandy Hook Road located just past the Orange County Fairgrounds Thursday morning.

For an unknown reason the Orleans Volunteer Fire Department was first alerted to the fire at 5:32 am Thursday morning before multiple fire departments joined Paoli and Orange County Rural District 2 Fire Departments in responding to the fire.

The home was reported as fully involved at the time of call. At this time there are no report of injuries.

The residence which is a two-story home with basement took firefighters over more than two hours to get under control.

The residence sat in a wooded area on top of a hillside, with embers showering several feet from the original fire. If the weather conditions would have been drier firefighters would have been contending with several spot fires through the wooded area.

A few spot fires did happen but was put out quickly.

With a narrow gravel driveway winding up the hillside, firefighters used a single supply line to a engine to fight the fire.

Other fire departments used their tankers to dump water in a portable tank to feed water to a engine who supplied the fire engine fighting the fire.

Paoli Police Department closed Sandy Hook Road at Hospital Road while numerous tankers filled at a fire hydrant at the Orange County Fairgrounds.

Paoli Police, Paoli Fire, Orleans Fire, Orange County Rural District 2, Livonia, VFD, Southeast Township, Orange County EMS, Orange County Sheriff's Depart and Orange County REMC responded to the scene.
