Marshall Township Volunteer Fire Department Fish Fry Was Huge Success

AVOCA - (April 18, 2022) - The Marshall Township Volunteer Fire Department Fish Fry was a huge success. The event was held at the Avoca-Marshall Township Recreation Park on Saturday.


The event was a huge success for the Marshall Township VFD who needs the funds to operate and make equipment purchases.


Judah Catering helped cooked the fish and meals for the event to help raise money for the fire department.



Volunteer fire departments across Lawrence County are in need of funding. The departments insurance costs, fuel expenditures and operating costs are eating away budgets.


The COVID-19 pandemic was financial burden on the Lawrence County fire departments. None of the county's nine fire departments were allowed to access CARES -Act funding and there is still lingering questions on whether ARPA funds could be used by the volunteer fire departments.


Fundraisers are one of the ways that volunteer fire departments in Lawrence County seek help with the expenditures above as well as purchase needed life -saving equipment.



Fire departments across the county provide fire protection, emergency medical services and extrication of accident victims.


The first quarter of 2022 Lawrence County volunteer fire department made 991 emergency runs between Lawrence County's nine volunteer fire departments.
