Bedford Woman arrested following three-vehicle crash in Washington County



WASHINGTON COUNTY - JANUARY 19, 2024 - On Wednesday January 17, 2024, at approximately 4:35 pm, deputies with the Washington County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to the intersection of E. State Road 60 and Voyles Road, in reference to a motor vehicle accident involving three vehicles.

Evidence at the scene along with witness

statements revealed that Rhyan Murphy, age 24 of Pekin, was driving a 2014 Ford Focus. Murphy was stopped in the westbound lane of State Road 60, waiting to turn left onto Voyles Road.


Patricia Garrison, age 32 of Bedford, was traveling westbound on E. State Road 60, in a 2010 Dodge Journey. Garrison failed to stop and rear-ended Murphy’s vehicle. Garrison’s vehicle continued into the eastbound lane of State Road 60 and struck a 2024 Honda CRV, driven by Judith Black, age 64 of Floyd’s Knobs.


Black was transported to Floyd County Hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries by the Washington County Ambulance Service. Murphy and Garrison both refused medical treatment at the scene.


During the investigation, it was discovered that Garrison was intoxicated at the time of the crash. Garrison was arrested and booked into the Washington County Detention Center and charged with Operating While Intoxicated and Operating While Intoxicated Causing Endangerment.


Deputy Hailee Lopotosky is the lead investigating officer and was assisted by Deputy Paul Reyling, Lt. Wayne Blevins along with members of the Pierce/Polk Volunteer Fire Department and Washington County Ambulance Service.
