Two arrested following shooting on Curry Pike leaving one person hospitalized

BLOOMINGTON - APRIL 22, 2024 - Two people were arrested and one person was transported emergent to IU Health Hospital Bloomington following a shooting in the 100 block of Curry Pike on Friday night.



The 911 call reporting the incident came in at around 10:55 pm am when police responded to a apartment complex with a report that 56-year old man had multiple gun shot wounds.


Two people fled the scene and found a Annabella Jackson age 19 running across the Highland Village Kroger parking lot on West Third Street. Multiple police officers gave chase and quickly located the two suspects.





The second suspect Devance Gayles, 35 Michigan City, was in a wooded area near the Kroger parking lot between the Highland Village Church and Kroger parking lot.


 K-9 officers were used to locate evidence which located a Tarus handgun wrapped in a sweatshirt.


Curry Pike was closed off for several minutes from Grand Avenue to West Third Street while law enforcement agencies worked the incident.


The two suspects that were located was first taken to the Bloomington Police Department for questioning before then being transported to the Monroe County Jail.


Devance Gayles was charged with:


  • Attempted murder

  • Burglary

  • Possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon

  • Criminal recklessness

  • Pointing a firearm


Annabella Jackson was charged with:


  • Resisting law enforcement

  • Warrant for probation violation


Bloomington Police was assisted by the Monroe County Sheriffs Department, Indiana State Police, Bloomington Fire Department, and IU Lifeline Ambulance Service.
