Turner owns Homegrown Auto, a used car dealership in Bedford; a business that has suffered the effects of COVID-19.
At the same time, he has spent the past two years building Lawrence County Independent Schools.
“It’s been a lot of challenging work,” Turner said, “We, myself and the other concerned parents, had never started a charter school, but we started raising money with community yard sales and partnering with people who had experience. In four short months after acquiring the Fayetteville Elementary school building, we started the school year with over 300 students and continue to get high praise from our authorizer, Education One at Trine University.”
Turner has served on several boards including Orbit Futbol, the Boy Scouts of America, and Lawrence County Independent Schools. He is an Eagle Scout and learned the value of community service through the projects completed over his years in the program.
He has worked as a government employee at NSWC Crane and as a contractor. Turner started his first business, a European automotive repair shop, ten years ago which transitioned into sales at Homegrown Auto - all without incurring any debt for start-up.
“I believe in the community in Lawrence County, and our community deserves someone who is willing to put in the work to try to make it a better place. I have spent the past couple of years trying to do just that with LCIS and I am proud to have helped bring school choice to our County. I feel here is still more that I can do to help. Our county budget is the biggest it has ever been. I am fiscally conservative and hate wasteful spending of taxpayer dollars. With some effort, I know there are things we can do to optimize county spending. That is one of the many reasons why I am running for County Council. My experiences turning dreams into reality and my strong-willed determination have already allowed me to affect change on a small scale and I look forward to seeing what I will be able to accomplish if elected. If you have any questions or things you feel need to be addressed, reach out to me on my candidate Facebook page,” says Turner.
District 1 encompasses Indian Creek Township, Spice Valley Township, and most of Marion Township and the city of Mitchell.
