Local Relief Efforts Underway for Kentucky Tornado Victims

LAWRENCE COUNTY - (December 13, 2021) - Relief efforts are now underway for the victims of the Kentucky Tornado that hit several communities in Kentucky.




Gerkin Contruction along with help from other businesses, churches, and volunteers is organizing a donation drive for the victims of the tornado in Kentucky.


There will be trucks and trailers set up in Bedford to accept donations and to help unload them.




The plan is to collect items on Tuesday and Wednesday and move all the items to an enclosed trailer and deliver them directly to the American Red Cross in Kentucky. Gerkin Construction will be providing the trucks, trailers and drivers. Gerkin's will accept donations for fuel costs.


Gerkin's will also accept checks made out to the American Red Cross. Several businesses that are helping include WBIW, Stars 99.3, Mikels Signs, Root's RV's, Jay-C Plus, Lowes, Grace Full Gospel Church, Hillside Christian Church, Mitchell Church of Christ, and many more.


Collection locations include Bedford Lowes, Jay-C Plus, Hillcrest Christian Church and Grace Full Gospel Church and Mitchell Church of Christ.


The collection will begin Tuesday through Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the locations listed above. For more information call 812-583-1318.


Clothing is not requested due to lack of manpower to sort clothing.


Items needed include:


  • baby items such as diapers, formula, bottles and wipes

  • new socks, underwear, T - shirts, and sweatshirts

  • Non- perishable food items, can openers, personal care items such as (toothbrushes, toothpaste, feminane care, deodorant, combs, hairbrushes, shampoo, soap)

  • towels, wash cloths, paper towels, cleaning supplies, bedding, kitchen supplies, pots, pans, coffee makers, knives, and utensils.

Supplies for tornado damage:


  • tarps

  • rolled plastic

  • cap nails

  • regular nails

  • hand tools (hammers, skill saws, pry bars,)

  • buckets

  • work gloves

  • brooms

  • dust masks

  • heavy trash bags

  • gloves
