Last Thursday's Fatal Fire on Lemon Quarry Road Remains Under Investigation

LAWRENCE COUNTY - NOVEMBER 16, 2022 - Last, Thursday's fire that left one person dead is still under investigation. Firefighters responded to a mobile home fire and wildland fire in the 200 block of Lemon Quarry Road.


Athena L. Taylor, 60, Bedford died from her injuries after being transported from the scene of the fire to the hospital.


The call reporting the fire came in after 12:04 p.m. last Thursday afternoon.


The 911 call reporting Taylor being trapped from the fire, and emergency personnel located Taylor and immediately began CPR.


According to Marshall Township Fire Chief Jason Lewis, Indiana State Fire Marshal's office is continuing their investigation and no other information can be released at this time.


Emergency personnel from Marshall Township, Oolitic, Perry Township Volunteer fire departments from Lawrence County and Monroe Fire Protection District from Monroe County as well as the U.S. Forestry Service. The Lawrence County Sheriff's Department and Indiana State Police also responded to the fire.
