ISP Crime Scene Investigator Accused of Taking Firearm from Evidence Locker

BLOOMINGTON - AUGUST 28, 2022 - BLOOMINGTON - Indiana State Police Crime Scene Investigator Sgt. Daniel T. Crozier, Springville is accused of taking a weapon from an evidence locker at the Bloomington Indiana State Police Post.

Sgt. Crozier was arrested on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, and taken to the Monroe County Jail where he posted bond and released on conditions set by the Monroe County Court.


The arrest came after an investigation led by the Indiana State Police Versailles District.


According to Sgt. Stephen Wheeles, Public Information Officer, Indiana State Police Versailles Post Crozier took a weapon that was scheduled to be destroyed out of the evidence locker.


Crozier kept the gun in his possession for approximately one week before returning the gun back to the Bloomington State Police Post and placing it back into the evidence locker.


After the gun was returned, an investigation was launched when the theft was discovered.


The case was presented to the Monroe County Prosecutor's office which resulted in charges being filed last week.


Sgt. Crozier has been placed on administrative duties pending the outcome of the investigation. An internal investigation will now begin, since the criminal case now has concluded.


Sgt. Crozier has waived his initial hearing on September 2, 2022, is being represented by Joseph Lozano of Bloomington.
