" The occupants was already on the porch when I got to the home. The homeowner had knee surgery which made it difficult for her to be mobile and was assisted by family members who were at the residence when the fire erupted," Jonathan Jones of Mitchell who was passing by the residence and seen the smoke.

" The fire started when a lawn mower was pulled into the garage and caught fire, then a nearby vehicle and then on to the residence," add Jones.

Marion Township Incident Commander Dane Fountain released the following statement: "Marion Township was dispatched to 1161 Woodville Road for a garage fire, upon arrival of the first unit, the attached garage of the home was fully engulfed and the fire was already pushing its way in towards the remainder of the home. Marion crews attempted to ventilate the opposite side of the structure in hopes to push the fire back but due to the progression of the fire and high wind activity we were forced to go into a defensive mode for the remainder of the incident. Shawswick and Huron responded with tankers, Mitchell VFD responded with an engine, and secondary tones were also set off for additional manpower. The home is unfortunately a complete loss but we were able to salvage several things from the residence. There were no injuries and everyone inside the residence was able to evacuate. The cause of the fire will remain under investigation and the State Fire Marshal's office has been notified,"
