Fire Crews in Brown County have long day with Structure Fire and Wildland Fire at State Park

BROWN COUNTY - NOVEMBER 20, 2022 - Firefighters in Brown County had a long and exhausting day battling a structure fire early Sunday morning, and a large wildland fire in Brown County State Park Sunday evening.

At 7:30 a.m. Sunday morning fire crews were dispatched on State Road 46 to a residential structure fire. The fire department was able to get the fire under control quickly with the fire contained to the front room and kitchen of the residence.

The firefighters were able to leave the scene about 11:45 a.m. Firefighters from Brown County Fire Department, Hamblen, Fruitdale, Jackson Township Volunteer Fire Department, IU Lifeline Ambulance Service and Brown County Sheriff's Department responded to the accident.



Then, Brown County Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched to a large wildland fire in the Brown County State Park. The call reporting the fire came in around 5:20 p.m. stating a large fire was near the Horseman's camp. Firefighters from the fire at 8:30 p.m. and Indiana Department of Natural Resources fire crews took over the operation.



The fire was still burning at 10:00 p.m. but at a slow rate of fire spread and still will take several hours to extinguish the fire and deal with hotspots. At this time the cause of the fire is not known.


Firefighters from Southern Brown Volunteer Fire Department, Hamblen Volunteer Fire Department, Harrison Township Volunteer Fire Department, Indiana Department of Natural Resources Conservation Unit, IU Lifeline Ambulance, Brown County Emergency Management Agency, and McDonalds of Nashville helped with this very large fire.
