Family pets perish in early morning mobile home fire on Wilbur Street in Paoli

PAOLI - JANUARY 8, 2024 - A Paoli family is saddened after two dogs and 3 - 4 cats perished in an early morning mobile home fire at 293 Wilbur Street early Monday morning.

The fire reported just before 8:00 am sending firefighters from Paoli, Springs Valley Fire Territory and Orange County Rural District 2 fire departments to the scene.


Orange County EMS was called to standby at the fire scene.




No one was injured in the blaze.


The home owned by Amanda Marshal who was left homeless and had no insurance. Marshal rented the home for more than 20 years


The American Red Cross is assisting Marshal at this time.


" There was a space heater in the home, however the fire was in the ceiling, so we really are not sure what caused the fire," said Audrie Hardin Marshal's daughter who spoke with the Lawrence County Zephyr following the fire.


" I work for the landlord and take care of the properties and came over finding smoke billowing out of the mobile home," Robert Burgess a caretaker of the mobile homes on Wilbur Street and who at one time lived next door to Marshal.


The Indiana State Fire Marshal office have been contacted to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
