Dump Truck Strikes Building at May's Greenhouse in Monroe County

MONROE COUNTY - SEPTEMBER 30, 2022 - Monroe Fire Protection District responded to a multiple vehicle accident with entrapment.



Around 3:30pm this afternoon MFD units were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident with

entrapment in the 6200 block South State Road 37.


While units were responding additional information received by dispatched advised the wreck involved multiple vehicles, one being a dump truck that had ran into a building.


When fire units arrived, they found two vehicles in the roadway, one in the parking lot, and a dump truck and John Deere Gator utility vehicle that had impacted the corner of the building with both drivers still trapped.


Firefighters immediately began working to stabilize the two vehicles and the building so they could extricate the two drivers. While firefighters worked to free those two drivers, additional firefighters and IU Health Lifeline Ambulance crews began triaging occupants from the other vehicles and individuals that were inside the building at the time of the incident.


Once the two drivers were freed from the building and vehicle, they were transported to IU

Health Bloomington where one would be flown to Indianpolis for further evaluation. The condition of the two drivers that were trapped is unknown at this time.


Additionally, two other occupants of the vehicles involved in the accident were taken to the

hospital for evaluation of their injuries. Three other individuals were treated at the scene and

released.
