BEDFORD POLICE STATION $2 MILLION PROJECT COMMERICIAL PERMIT ISSUED IN NOV.

BEDFORD - DECEMBER 9, 2022 - The commercial permit issued for the construction of the renovation of the Bedford Police Station was the largest project for the Month of November.

The new Bedford Police Station was bid at just over $2 Million

The total cost of the project of $2 Million was approved by the Bedford Redevelopment Commission and Bedford City Council in November.

  • The lowest bid for the project was submitted by Fox Construction Company 6931 South Old State Road 37, Bloomington, Indiana in the amount of $2,024,000 base bid.

At this time there are some concerns for stability of the flooring for the concrete grout as the construction project began. The Bedford Redevelopment Commission held a meeting earlier this week in regard to some construction concerns and additional costs to the project.

The project was awarded to Fox Construction, and the old tile floor in the old Aldi's building was scheduled to be removed, grounded to be a smooth a surface, and replaced with carpet.

However, as crews removed the tile, a concrete grout was located, and the pad was worn and in need of improvements. The concern over flooring and stability of the interior walls has become a concern.

Fox Construction has requested a change order to include an additional cost of $40,856 to replace the concrete pad with better material.

The change order will require a new contract after Bedford Redevelopment Commissioner member Ryan Griffith requested a schedule of values, that would keep track of additional labor costs, material used, and approving a change order not to exceed a certain amount.

Bedford Redevelopment Commission will reconvene on Monday at 4:00 p.m. during their regular scheduled meeting to vote on the new contract and change orders related to the project.

A total of 13 permit were issued in the Month of November by the Bedford Planning Department.

NOVEMBER PERMITS ISSUED FOR NOVEMBER:

  • Certificate of Occupancy - 2

  • Commerical Building with inspections - 1

  • New public building - 1

  • New residential construction - 2

  • Residential no inspection - 2

  • Residential with inspection - 3

  • Signs - 2

  • Total permits issued 13

Residential construction has cooled off some for the winter season with just over half million in new residential construction and a total of $241,000 in residential home remodeling.

The construction business both in residential and commercial should thaw out this Spring but things still seem to be going strong as some projects move to the inside.
