Several Accidents Reported in Washington County Monday

WASHINGTON COUNTY - ( January 17, 2022) -The Washington County Sheriff's Department responded to a couple of snow related crashes earlier today.


At approximately 8:50 am today, officers responded to a one vehicle crash on Motsinger Road, near the railroad crossing, involving a Jackson County REMC truck. Dylan Moore, age 23 of Salem, Indiana was traveling east on Motsinger Road, when he lost control of his 2019 Chevrolet Colorado, on a snow covered curve.

Moore collided with a guardrail causing extensive front end damage to his vehicle. Moore was not injured in the accident.


Sheriff Brent Miller was the investigating officer and was assisted at the scene by New Pekin Town Marshal Jeff Thomas.


At approximately 9:17 am today, officers responded to the area of 1545 W. Skylight Road for a one vehicle crash, involving a Fed Ex truck.






Thomas Peak, age 28 of Louisville, Kentucky stated he was westbound when he got too close to the edge of the roadway and dropped his right front tire into the ditch. Peak struck a Jackson County REMC utility pole before coming to a stop. Peak was not injured in the accident.


Utility crews had to respond to the scene to secure the utility pole before the truck could be removed. Skylight Road was closed for approximately 3.5 hours.


Captain Joe Keltner is the investigating officer and was assisted by Deputy Paul Reyling and members of Jackson County REMC.


At approximately 12:08 pm today, officers responded to a two vehicle crash on State Road 160, just west of Franklin School Road. Evidence at the scene and driver statements confirmed that Marcus Martin, age 18 of Salem, Indiana was traveling east on State Road 160, in a blue Chevrolet pickup truck, while William Wilson, age 27 of Scottsburg, Indiana was traveling west on State Road 160, in a Jacobi Fuel Truck. Martin lost control of his vehicle in a snow covered curve, slid left of center and collided with the Jacobi Fuel Truck. Wilson's vehicle struck the passenger side door of Martin's vehicle, and injured Collin Jones, age 20 of Pekin, a passenger in Martin's truck. Jones was transported to Ascension St. Vincent Salem Hospital by the Washington County Ambulance Service for treatment of minor injuries. Martin and Wilson were not injured.


Deputy Paul Reyling is investigating the crash and was assisted by Sheriff Brent Miller, New Pekin Town Marshal Jeff Thomas and members of the Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Department.
