Traffic accidents keep Lawrence County Emergency personnel busy

LAWRENCE COUNTY - DECEMBER 4, 2023 - Holiday shoppers are in a hurry and not using defensive driving techniques to prevent traffic accidents. Word of advice from police officers "slow down and give yourself time to arrive at your destination,"

Over the last weekend there have been several injury and non- injury traffic accidents in Lawrence County.


On Thursday at 2:48 pm a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of 16th Street and Indiana State Road 37. That person was transported to IU Health hospital Bedford.


A second injury accident was reported in the 2000 block of 16th Street at 5:35 pm Thursday evening.

The Lawrence County Police worked an injury accident in the 700 block of Gun Smith Road Thursday night at 10:32 pm that sent the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department, Shawswick Township Volunteer Fire Department, Lawrence County Fire Territory Ambulance and IU Lifeline Ambulance Service to the scene.


A vehicle struck an Amish buggy with several people on board. The Lawrence County Sheriff's Department has not released an accident report.



On Friday December 1, 2023 Bedford Police five property damage accidents which included John William Blvd and Williams Park, McDonalds on West 16th Street, leaving the scene of an accident at Oak Manor, Taco Bell near Clinic Drive, and another accident near Wal-Mart on John Williams Blvd.


Bedford Police worked three reported injury accidents on Friday at Sandpit and Mitchell Road, John Williams and R Street and 16th Street / Hilcrest Road all within a two hour period of time. Indiana State Police assisted Bedford Police

On Friday Lawrence County Sheriff's Department worked two property damage accidents and one injury accidents which included Indiana Avenue and Main Street in Oolitic, and Indiana State Road 37 and Wesley Chapel Road.


On Saturday morning a two vehicle traffic accident sent at least one person to IU Health Bedford hospital, after they collided at the intersection of 16th and Edgewood Drive.


On Sunday morning a traffic accident with injuries was reported at 11:22 am at the intersection of 15th and L Street same location of a injury accident that happened Monday afternoon around 2:00 pm. The accident Monday sent one vehicle on its top.


Sunday night a traffic accident was reported in the 100 block of Indian Creek Road that sent Indian Creek Township VFD, IU Lifeline Ambulance and Lawrence County Sheriff's Department to the scene.


All police agencies are on the lookout for impaired driving, please drink responsible.
