Seymour Police Department Arrest Two in Storage Unit Theft

SEYMOUR - ( April 13, 2022) -On March 25, 2022, the Seymour Police Department received a report from the owner of Ace Storage which is located at 1015 E. Tipton St. in Seymour, Indiana.



The owner believed at least one storage unit had been broken into by two suspects in a passenger vehicle. Patrol officers responded to the location but did not locate any suspects or the suspect vehicle. A few days later, the owner of the storage facility provided additional information to investigators. Investigators followed up on the additional information and developed 2 possible suspects.


On April 6, 2022, investigators located the two possible suspects and the possible suspect vehicle. Patrol officers and investigators conducted an investigative stop and identified the two possible suspects as Joshua Shelton age 33 of Seymour, Indiana, and Sonya Thompson age 31 of Seymour, Indiana.


Neither Shelton nor Thompson possessed a valid driver’s license. Since neither suspect had a valid driver’s license, an inventory of the vehicle was completed before the vehicle was towed. During the inventory, investigators located a hypodermic syringe in a backpack owned by Thompson.


As a result of the investigation, Joshua Shelton was arrested for burglary a level 5 felony, theft a level 6 felony, and possession of marijuana a class A misdemeanor. Sonya Thompson was arrested for possession of a hypodermic syringe a level 6 felony. The investigation is still ongoing.
