Salem Man Barricades Himself with Gun in Washington County

WASHGINGTON COUNTY - JANUARY 31, 2023 - A Salem man was arrested after a barricading himself from police officers in Washington County.

At 11:56 am officers with the Washington County Sheriff's Department went to 2133 East Old State Road 160 in Salem for a warrant service for Shawn Colglazier, 40, Salem.


When officers arrived, Colglazier fled into a precut hole in the floor of a modular home. Officers attempted to make contact with him, who refused to communicate back.


During this time a family member advised that he was not coming out of the crawl space and could be suicidal and armed with a handgun.


Officers did establish contact with Colglazier but was terminated after one hour. The Southeast SWAT team was contacted for manpower and assistance.


Colglazier was taken into custody at 5:35 pm and transported to the Washington County Jail.


He was charged with violation to revoke probation for felony strangulation and resisting arrest a class A misdemeanor.


Investigating officers included Deputy Paul Reyling, and Detective Brad Naugle, with assiting officers Sheriff Brent Miller, Chief Deputy Brad Shephard, Detective Russell Wilcoxson, Salem Police Department, Indiana Conservation Officer Neal Brewington and animal control officer Mike Wimmer.


The Washington County Sheriff's Department was assisted by Salem Police Department, Indiana Conservation Department, Southeastern SWAT, and Washington County Ambulance Service.
