Trash Fee Increase and New Trash Pickup Procedures
Original story: MITCHELL - JANUARY 11, 2023 - The Mitchell City Council passed the first reading of an ordinance to increase trash fees in the City of Mitchell.
Unlike the City of Bedford businesses are exempt from trash collection fees. Mitchell residential customers will not be allowed to opt out of the fees.
During the meeting Mayor Caudell told residents a public hearing will be held so residents can voice their concerns and weigh in on the matter.
The fees have been at $10 a month for several years and have not kept up with inflation.
The fees will increase to $14 a month in 2024 generating $16,510 a month, or a total of $198,120 a year.
The fees will increase to $15 a month in 2025.
The public hearing for the trash fees was to be held within 10 days of the city council meeting however the date of the public hearing has not been made at this time.
