One Person Dies in Fatal Accident on I-69 Tuesday morning in Monroe County

MONROE COUNTY - OCTOBER 18, 2022 - The Monroe County Sheriff's Department investigated an early morning fatal accident on Interstate - 69 at the 111 Mile Marker.



According to the press release by the Monroe County Sheriff's Department a tractor-trailer and passenger vehicle collided.


The driver of the passenger vehicle passed away at the scene, the semi was hauling liquid asphalt.


A witness told investigators that while they were traveling southbound on the interstate, he passed the semi and driving in the fast lane by the passenger vehicle when three deer jumped into the roadway, causing the victims vehicle to spin out of control.


The semi- struck the passenger vehicle which had no lights on and did not have time to stop. The semi striking the passenger vehicle which was sideways in the roadway.


The Interstate was closed for several hours while the accident was investigated and the accident was cleared.


The Monroe County Sheriff's Department investigated the accident along with reconstructionist from the Indiana State Police. Monroe Fire Protection District, Monroe County Coroner's Office, and IU Lifeline Ambulance Service responded to the accident.
