New Water Meters and Cameras Should Help Oolitic with Efficiency

OOLITIC - (December 27, 2021) - After several years in the waiting Oolitic finally landed new water meters and cameras to improve services to the town.

To date, 535 meters with blue tooth capability has arrived at the Town of Oolitic to improve reading meters, locating leaks, and installing both water and sewer lines.

Under normal conditions it took town crews at least 2-3 days to read meters, several hours and days to locate leaks. Those days are now in the books with the arrival of both water meters and a camera to view the lines.

" This should help us to locate leaks and find out if the issue is on the town, or on the resident. This will help us provide our customers with better information and allow us to show them by video where problems are located," said Zac Bell Oolitic Town Supervisor.

Recently, the reader identified 358 meters within 15 minutes of time, which identified leaks, as well as improper installation of four meters," said town council member Jon Broglin.

During the meeting Monday night those attending got to see the new camera system that was just recently purchased in the amount of $3,600. Approximately 200 feet of cable will be able to allow both water/sewer and Oolitic Fire Department personnel to use the new device.

The manpower required by both the readers and the clerk-treasurer's office will be reduced the saving taxpayer's money and improving efficiency by all involved.

" This will also, save us from the expense of digging up yards, concrete, and streets when trying to locate leaks," said Bell.
