Man Cutting Tree Causes Power Outage and Near by Home to Catch Fire

MITCHELL - JUNE 4, 2022 - A Mitchell man cutting a tree, that landed on nearby powerlines caused a power outage to 30 Duke customers.


Mitchell Police and Mitchell Fire Department respond to the 400

block of West Frank Street after tree fell on powerlines


The incident was reported at 8:51 p.m. Saturday night in the 400 block of West Frank Street in Mitchell.



According to officials the man who was drinking beer was cutting the tree. He did not realize the tree went into the powerlines and caught the neighbors siding to their home on fire.


Duke Energy arrives to restore power to approximately 30 customers


The fire caused only minor damage the home. Duke Energy arrived at 9:15 p.m. to make repairs and get power restored to the remaining Duke customers.


Mitchell Police and Mitchell Fire Department responded to the incident.
