Lightening Strikes Residence in Salem on Saturday Morning

SALEM - JULY 1, 2023 - Salem Fire Department responded to a reported residential fire on Saturday morning at 11:30 am.

Firefighters suspect lightening may have sparked the a fire at the home in the 900 block of North Main Street in Salem.


The fire department responded with two engines and Duke Energy was contacted to respond to the home.


Firefighters responded to find smoke conditions in the home. Believe the home suffered minor damage. At the time of the fire a thunderstorm moved through the area.


Thunderstorms throughout the last several days have been to blame for several fires across southern Indiana.


This fires possibly caused by storms includes a garage fire in Oolitic on Thursday afternoon, barn fire in New Pekin, Thursday night, and a garage fire Saturday morning on Tunnelton Road, south of Bedford.
