Laundry Village destroyed by fire Thursday morning will have major impact on Bedford residents

BEDFORD - MARCH 28, 2024 - The Laundry Village located at 515 Lincoln Avenue in Bedford was destroyed by fire Thursday morning.


The loss will have a tremendous affect on the Bedford community with several people using the facility for laundry and dry cleaning services.


This will only leave one laundry mat in the Bedford community the Dutchtown Laundry located on 22nd Street.






The fire reported just before 3:00 am with the exact time of the fire not known at this time.


A person passing by the fire reporting the fire. The location was just across the street from Bedford Fire Station #2 was fully involved at the time of call.


The fire quickly spread through the whole building and could be seen for several miles.


Bedford firefighters kept the fire from spreading to near by structures.

Lincoln Avenue between 5th and 6th and O street between Lincoln Avenue and 6th Street was closed while fire crews worked to battle the blaze.


The wall of the building collapsed around 3:20 am with none of the firefighters injured at the time of collapse and at least three minor explosions could be heard inside the building as firefighters worked to keep the fire contained to the building.



At the time of this report there was no reports of injuries.


All three fire stations responded to the scene with four engines, assisted by Bedford Police Department, Lawrence County Sheriff's Department, IU Lifeline Ambulance and Duke Energy.


The cause of the fire is not known with the fire cause and origin being investigated.
