MITCHELL - SEPTEMBER 11, 2023 - The Mitchell Community School Board voted 5-0 to hire Kevin Conner as their next School Resource Officer.

" I have been a police officer for the last 18 years. I have served as a deputy in Brown County and for 15 years as an Indiana Conservation Officer. Most recently served as a detective for Paoli Police Department. This a change of pace for me," said Officer Conner.

The one-year contract will pay Conner $53,000 a year for 190 days. The current Lawrence County Council will pay $26,000 in the 2024 budget. At this time, it is not known whether the county's funding will continue.
Holidays the school corporation is closed on Labor Day, Fall Break, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Spring Break and Memorial Day and Independence Day.
Conner will be a Special Deputy of the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department. He must undergo same training as the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department, carry same equipment and radio provided by the Lawrence County Emergency Management Agency.
His first day on the job is unknown as he must be sworn in and a few more formalities before he starts this new position.
