LAWRENCE COUNTY - DECEMBER 8, 2023 -BEDFORD – Lawrence Superior Court I Judge John M. Plummer III sentenced a Missouri man to a sentence of 18 years in the Indiana Department of Correction.
Gary Jones, 72, pled guilty on December 4, 2023 to two counts of Child Molesting, a Level 3 felony, as a part of a negotiated plea agreement with the State of Indiana.
In March of 2022, Jones was charged with Multiple counts of Child molesting, Rape, and Strangulation, and after the initial case was filed, new information was presented to the Lawrence County Prosecutors office and in April of 2022 another case of Child Molesting was filed against Jones.
Chief Deputy Prosecutor Joshua K. Scherschel stated: "This office takes every allegation of child sexual abuse seriously. These convictions stem from allegations from 2016, and the victims in these cases finally have the justice they deserve."
The Elsberry, Missouri man was arrested in March 2022 for one count of child molestation by Indiana State Police.
Indiana State Police Bloomington District Detective Allen Deel was able to submit a second proable cause affadavit requesting additional charges.
The investigation began in February 2022, when Detectve Deel was made aware of allegations made by a 13 years old victim.
The additional charges at the time included Child Molesting, Level 1, Felony (11 Counts), Child Molesting - Level - 4, ( 3 Counts ), Rape -Level - 3, (3 Counts), and Strangulation Level - 6 Felony, (3 Counts )
