MITCHELL - MARCH 21, 2023 - The investigation into the death of a small child at Boots and Bows Daycare located at 607 Teke Burton Drive in Mitchell continues.
The Indiana State Police Bloomington District responded to a daycare in Mitchell on the afternoon of Wednesday, March 15, 2023, in regard to a Death Investigation of a 4-month-old female.
That investigation is still ongoing, and an autopsy has been performed. Investigators are still reviewing evidence and results from tests.
Upon completion of the investigation, we will present the findings to the Lawrence County Prosecutor for further review and determination if an element of a crime has been found within the investigation.
" We understand that there are often questions regarding such a tragic event, but we do not have a timeline for completion of our investigation," said Sgt. Michael Wood Public Information Officer Indiana State Police Bloomington Post # 33.
The Indiana State Police is not involved in the closing of the daycare. The Department of Child Services will be involved with those administrative actions.
The Boots & Bows Daycare facility located at 607 Teke Burton Drive had a few critical violations according to records obtained from the FSSA Child Care Provider reports in Indiana.
Last Wedenseday, emergency personnel from Mitchell Police Department, Mitchell Fire Department, and IU Lifeline Ambulance responded to the daycare on reports a small child was not breathing.
Lawrence County Coroner Elizabeth Freeman Cammack told the Lawrence County Zephyr that the autopsy has been completed, which was performed at the Lawrence County Forensics Center in Bedford.
She stated the cause and manner of death will be released by the Indiana State Police and has not released the name of the child who died.
