Indianapolis Police Officer Dies in Farming Accident on Barlettsville Road

BARLETTSVILLE - JUNE 17, 2022 - An Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Detective was killed when a tree branch fell while working on his cabin in the 3600 block of Bartlettsville Road Thursday night


According to reports a neighbor reported the incident at 7:20 p.m.



Anthony Farrell, 53, Morristown, Indiana was clearing brush from his property when his tractor got caught in some vines, and caused a large tree that was 30 feet above got caught and came crashing down.


Farrell was trapped and was struck by the limb and was pronounced dead at the scene.


The IMPD detective was appointed detective with the department on February 1, 1999 and was a liaison with the Joint Terrorism Task Force.


The investigation continues to the accident but foul play is not suspected.


Members of the Pleasant Run and Shawswick Fire Department, Bedford Fire Department, Lawrence County Sheriff's Department, IU Lifeline Ambulance Service and Lawrence County Coroner's Office responded to the incident.
