Sergeant Werne activated his emergency lights and siren and turned around. Sergeant Werne attempted to stop the vehicle and warn other drivers of the wrong-way driver.

Several vehicles pulled over and avoided a head-on collision with the wrong-way driver. The driver was finally stopped by Sergeant Werne at US 231 and Medcalf Street. Sergeant Werne found out the driver was an elderly male who had lost a lens in his glasses and couldn’t see at night.

The elderly male with the assistance of Santa Claus Police Department was given a courtesy ride home so he could make it home safely. Thankfully Sergeant Werne was in the right place at the right time to avoid a tragedy.
