Indiana State Rep. Jim Lucas Arrested Wednesday morning for DWI and leaving the scene of a crash

JACKSON COUNTY - MAY 31, 2023 - Indiana Republican District 69 Rep. Jim Lucas was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated and Leaving the scene of a traffic accident Wednesday morning in Jackson County.

Lucas crashed his vehicle on I -65, just north of Seymour around midnight, according to information released by the Indiana State Police.


Seymour Police officers located Lucas's vehicle a short time later and at a different location, and Lucas located nearby and was arrested by the Indiana State Police.


Jim Lucas, 58 years of age was booked into the Jackson County Jail at 3:46 am on the charges of operating while intoxicated, and leaving the scene of an property damage crash, and operating a vehicle while intoxicated with endangerment.


Lucas has since bonded out around 7:53 am after posting a $705 bond.


Lucas is known to support the 2nd Amendment and cannabis support and various controversial social media postings.


Lucas was first elected in 2012 and helped with H.B. 1177 pass through the 2023 legislative session which creates a state funded gun training program for school staff.


Indiana House District 69 includes portions of Jackson, Bartholomew, Scott and Washington Counties.


There is no word on whether the Indiana legislature will allow Lucas to hold his seat, or encourage his resignation.
