Indiana State Police Make Drug Arrest in Orange County

WEST BADEN - JUNE 30, 2022 - On June 29, 2022, at approximately 8:05 PM, Indiana State Police Sgt. Mike Allen stopped a truck and trailer for expired trailer registration. Troopers Villanueva and Jones went to assist Sgt. Allen with the stop. Officer Burkhardt with the West Baden Springs Police Department and his K9 were called to the scene and for assistance.

K9 Asher gave a positive indication for an illegal substance in the truck. The driver, Richard Baumgardner,45, admitted to smoking marijuana earlier that day. Baumgardner was given Field Sobriety Tests by Trooper Jones, Baumgardner failed the tests. A search of the Baumgardner’s vehicle by officers found suspected methamphetamine, marijuana, hash oil, and various items of paraphernalia.


West Baden Officer Ewing is working the drug investigation.


Richard Baumgardner was arrested and charged with the following:

Possession of methamphetamine-4 F

Possession of a legend drug x3- 6F

Possession of paraphernalia-A Mis

Carrying a handgun without a license-A Mis

OVWI Endangerment-A Mis

OVWI-C Mis

Possession of marijuana-B Mis

Possession of Hash Oil-B Mis


Richard Baumgardner was booked into the Orange County Jail without incident.
