Imagine There Was No One On the Other End to Answer Your Emergency Call

LAWRENCE COUNTY - ( April 12, 2022) - " Imagine there was no one on the other end to answer your emergency call" said Valarie Luchuaer 911 Director for Lawrence County.



The Lawrence County Commissioners were informed that Lawrence County dispatchers are working long hours with overtime lately. The Lawrence County dispatch center is down three dispatchers; who went on to better employment opportunities. Another dispatcher will be on medical leave soon. This will leave a shortage of 911 dispatchers.



April 16th - April 20th this year, is National Telecommunicator Week who is the gold line of emergencies.


The other day the dispatch center fielded 15 911 calls in one hour, one incident had multiple reporting the incident. The dispatchers that were on duty done a great job, according to Luchuaer.

The 911 calls for the county are answered at Bedford Police Department and Lawrence County Sheriff's Department.


The commissioners thanked the dispatchers for the work they do. Anyone wanting to apply for the position can do so by submitting their resume at the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department 1420 I Street in Bedford.
