LINTON - FEBRUARY 1, 2024 - The Greene County Humane Society in Linton, Indiana, is hosting an open house on Friday, February 2, 2024 from 5 PM to 7 PM to familiarize the public with the current facility, staff, currently available animals, and the need for the new facility.

The open house will feature displays around the shelter about the past, present, and future of the Greene County Humane Society. The public will have the opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at all areas of the facility and grounds and talk with staff and volunteers about the shelter's current programs and initiatives including their goal to redefine the approach to animal welfare and to solve the core issues that cause homeless and unwanted animals.

On January 7th, the Greene County Humane Society announced a capital campaign to raise $2,500,000 for the construction of a state-of-the-art animal shelter on the current shelter grounds. The new facility will be more than double the size of the current shelter and is designed to resolve many of the issues present in the existing facility.

The open house plans to highlight these deficiencies and outline the plans to resolve them with a new facility.

The Humane Society currently has two active fundraisers for the new facility. The first is a 2024 photo calendar that features Linton Police and Fire Department members and shelter pets. These calendars are available for purchase at the shelter and online with free shipping at https://givebutter.com/GCHS2024Calendar.

The second is a Valentine Day themed fundraiser where, for a $10 donation, donors can have the name of an ex or other individual written on the bottom of a cat litter box to “honor” them. To participate and have someone honored, visit https://givebutter.com/aPxZTm.

In addition to learning about the current facility and plans for the new facility, all of the wonderful animals at the humane society will be available to be visited with and considered for adoption.

All attendees of the open house will have the opportunity to enter to win a gift basket, and the event will feature refreshments provided by Hometown Doughnuts in Linton.

The Greene County Humane Society is located at 1026 N 1375 W, Linton, IN. The public is welcome to attend anytime during the open house and to come prepared with any questions that they may have.
