An off duty MFD Deputy Chief Cornwell, was driving through the area when he noticed smoke across the roadway and then saw flames from the residence.

Deputy Chief Cornwell notified dispatch of the incident and additional MFD units were then dispatched to the scene.

When firefighters arrived, they found a single-story home with heavy fire and smoke coming from the back and right side of the home.

First arriving crews deployed hose lines to the rear of the structure and began to attack the fire as other crews were arriving on scene. The bulk of the fire was knocked down very quickly while other firefighters searched the home for any occupants.

The search of the home did not locate anyone as the homeowner was not home at the time of the fire. Firefighters remained on scene for an extended time to put out hot spots and assist the fire investigator.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Monroe Fire District was assisted on scene by IU Health Lifeline Ambulance, and Duke Energy. No injuries reported. Subscribe for breaking news, news and information at lczephyr.org.
