Firefighters respond to garage fire on West Allen Street in Bloomington

BLOOMINGTON - FEBRUARY 11, 2024 - Fire units responded to West Allen Street Sunday evening for a structure fire.

City of Bloomington, IN - Fire Department was dispatched to the call as it was originally dispatched as a possible city address.



As fire units were almost on scene dispatch advised it was actually in the county and dispatched Monroe Fire Protection District and Ellettsville Fire Department units as well.


Bloomington City Engine 4 arrived advising a two story detached garage on fire near the home.


Engine 4 began fire attack as additional units arrived and secured a water supply and provided additional manpower.


Crews were able to quickly knock down the fire keeping the fire contained to the garage and not reaching the house.


The homeowner was home at the time of the fire and was alerted by their grand child who spotted the fire after seeing smoke blowing behind the house.


No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.


Monroe County Sheriff's Department assisted with traffic while supply hoses were laid across the road and IU Health Lifeline provided medical standby.


While firefighters were still on scene Monroe Fire Protection District and Ellettsville Fire units were dispatched to a second structure fire call on the far North side on N Turkey Track Rd.


No fire was found and was reported to be smoke coming from an outdoor furnace. All units were disregarded and returned to service.
