Firefighter escapes injury responding to structure fire Mill Creek Road Friday morning

MITCHELL - JANUARY 19, 2024 - A Marion Township firefighter escaped injury after the brush truck he was driving rolled over when responding to an early morning structure fire.


The only injury was a cut to his arm.


The roadway was snow covered at the time of the accident.

The accident occurred on Mill Creek Road by the Heidelberg Plant in Mitchell, Indiana.


The accident is being investigated by the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department.


An ambulance from IU Lifeline Ambulance responded to the scene to evaluate the firefighter.


The fire on Mill Creek was a shed fire with firefighters from Mitchell Volunteer Fire Department and Marion Township dispatched to the fire at 7:14 am. just past the plant on Mill Creek Road.


A heat lamp is suspected in sparking the early morning fire that destroyed the shed and melted the siding to a nearby home. No injuries was reported at the fire scene.


Firefighters were on scene less than one hour.
