BEDFORD - JANUARY 12,2023 - Customers of the Bedford Ruler Food Store located at 624 East 16th Street location is saddened by the closing of the store on January 23, 2024.

On Tuesday afternoon the store was busy with shoppers and reacted to hearing the news of the closure.
" We use this store all the time because we live close by, and the prices have always been affordable for us. Bedford has several other grocery stores, but we have always liked this store," said the Patten's of Bedford.
" I have always used this store, the employees have always been so helpful and hate to see anyone losing their jobs this time of year," said another customer who was loading their groceries into their vehicle.
" The location was beneficial to use living on the eastside of Lawrence County, we are saddened to learn of the closure," said one Leesiville resident.
The company first wanted to break the news to their customers before releasing the information to the news media.
The building has deteriorated over the years and is in need of repairs, in what some customers were told the reasoning behind the decision to close.

A spokesperson for Ruler Food released the following statement:

After a thorough review of the store's performance and future potential, we have made the difficult decision to close the Bedford, Indiana store located at 624 16Th St, Bedford, IN 47421. This decision was not taken lightly, as we understand the impact it has on our valued customers, associates, and the community.
We are committed to assisting our affected associates during this transition and will be offering them the opportunity to transfer to the nearby Ruler Food location, where they can continue to serve our customers and grow with the company. Our priority is to ensure a smooth transition for our associates and minimize any disruption to their lives.
We understand that the closure of this store may inconvenience some of our customers, and we apologize for any disruption this may cause. We encourage our customers to visit our nearby Ruler store located at 1240 W Main St., Mitchell, IN 47446 where they can continue to enjoy the same quality products and services, they have come to expect from us. Additionally, there is a nearby Jay-C location less than 2 miles away.
