Burn Pile Causes a fire to Spread to Carport - Vehicles Catch Fire Saturday Afternoon

NEEDMORE - OCTOBER 15, 2022 - Property owners who started a burn pile, causing a grass fire. The grass fire then spread to a nearby carport, catching two vehicles on fire Saturday afternoon. The vehicles were a total loss.


The fire was reported at 5:52 p.m. in the 100 block of Amick Lane near Needmore Saturday afternoon.


Firefighters from the Marshall Township and Oolitic Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the fire. The firefighters had the fire under control in about 30 minutes of the call.


Firefighters remained on the scene until about 7:30 p.m.


Residents are reminded that any kind of burning at this time is very dangerous due to windy conditions and dry conditions. Fire bans have been enacted in 12 counties in Indiana, however Lawrence County has not enacted such a fire ban at this time.
