Bridge replacement will close Mill Creek Road beginning Tuesday with closure lasting into May 2024

MITCHELL - SEPTEMBER 3, 2023 - On Tuesday, Mill Creek Road between Pumphouse Road and Lawrenceport Road will be closed for bridge replacement.




The closure is expected to last until at least May 2024 weather permitting affecting the amount of time the road will remain closed.


There were many delays on starting the project with CSX railroad and Frontier Cable delaying the project, frustrating the Lawrence County Commissioners.




Locust Road remains closed due to emergency repairs. There are several bridges in Lawrence County.

The bridge on Saddle Barn Road now has a 3- ton weight limit and is expected to be closed to vehicular traffic.

This year, the bridges throughout Lawrence County and the City of Bedford were inspected, A detailed report on this year's inspections have not yet been released to the public.at this time.


The bridge over Leatherwood Creek on Cement Plant Road has been closed for several years due to be a federal project.

Due to weight limit restrictions farmers, school buses, and fire engines such as Indian Creek Township Volunteer Fire Department's new 4,000-gallon tanker might have to find their way around Lawrence County's deficient bridges.

In Lawrence County it will take several years and millions of dollars to repair or replace bridges in the county.
