BLOOMINGTON - ( April 15, 2022) - On April 3, 2022 at approximately 7:10 p.m., officers responded to the area of Tri-North Middle School for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers located three juveniles in the school parking lot who reported that they had been shot at. One of the juveniles, later determined to be 17 years of age, had a gunshot wound to his lower leg and an officer applied a tourniquet to his leg in an effort to control the bleeding. While officers were attempting to provide medical care to the injured juvenile, the other two juveniles fled from the area. Investigators located an empty shell casing nearby. The victim was transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital by ambulance for treatment.
During the course of the investigation, detectives were able to review surveillance footage and were able to determine that the juveniles had been shot at while walking through the school parking lot from someone inside a vehicle that was traveling on Monroe Street. Further, investigators determined that one of the juveniles walking through the school parking lot produced a handgun and began firing back at the car as it sped away.
On the morning of April 4th, investigators detained the juvenile that had fired towards the car when he arrived at Bloomington High School South. After interviewing the 15 year-old, he was referred to Juvenile Probation for the charges of Possession of a Firearm on School Property (level 6 felony) and Possession of a Handgun without a License (class A misdemeanor) and was transported to a secure juvenile detention facility.
Investigators were able to determine that the individual who fired at the juveniles from the vehicle was Hachime Abou (18, Bloomington). A probable cause affidavit was filed with the Court requesting an arrest warrant be issued for Abou for the charges of Attempted Murder (level 1 felony) and Criminal Recklessness with a Deadly Weapon (level 5 felony). The warrant was issued, but it was believed that Abou had left Bloomington and his whereabouts were unknown.
On April 14th, investigators learned that Abou was in the Bloomington area and began surveilling him. Abou was the front seat passenger in a vehicle being operated by a 27 year-old Bloomington woman. At approximately 1:20 p.m., officers attempted to box the vehicle in to take Abou into custody in the 300 block of N Adams Street. However, the woman failed to stop for the emergency lights of the police vehicle in front of her and rammed the patrol vehicle. She then backed up and again rammed the patrol vehicle, but was unable to move it out of the way. Both she and Hachime Abou were then taken into custody. At the time of his arrest, Abou was armed with a handgun.
Hachime Abou was transported to the Monroe County Jail and remanded for:
Attempted Murder, level 1 felony
Criminal Recklessness with a Deadly Weapon, level 5 felony
