Bedford Parks Department Pickle-Ball Courts at Wilson Park construction continues

BEDFORD - JULY 19, 2023 - The construction of the Pickle-Ball courts continue at Wilson Park continues.

Bedford Parks Director Jimmy Jones could not release a time when the new courts will be ready.


The Bedford Board of works approved $10,000 towards the project after the Bedford Parks Recreation Foundation agreed to split the $105,000 cost between the Bedford Parks Department and Foundation.




" We are pleased to be a part of this special project; we have supported many projects in the past with the City of Bedford. This is one of the more important projects we are undertaking," said Tom Elliott, Bedford Recreation Foundation.



" The Claude Akins Fundraiser has helped us do many different things for the Bedford Parks Department, helping with the bathhouse and training center. We want to make sure what we do counts, and we felt like with the popularity of pickle-ball and the city not having a dedicated court. We have some fantastic parks and feel like Wilson Park will be utilized more," said Joe Elliott Bedford Recreation Foundation president.


Bedford Recreation Director Gary Dorsett reports they are currently 19 teams playing pickle-ball at the tennis courts at Thornton Park until the courts at Wilson Park are completed.


Bedford Parks Director Jimmie Jones is reporting that crews have painted the picnic tables at the horseshoe pits in Wilson Park.

Crews have also had to remove several trees at Otis Park over the last several years, due to safety concerns, and trees being dead. Bedford Parks Department have replaced 90 percent of the trees that were downed.

Officials have received several compliments on how well Otis Park Golf Course is being maintained and left in excellent condition.
