Bedford Parks Department offers a variety of places to experience healthy activities and sports

BEDFORD - JULY 18, 2023 - The Bedford Parks Department has a variety of places to experience healthy activities and sports all year long.

In the summer season remains busy with events and activities to let the community experience the outdoors.

The Bedford Garden Park sits on Bedford's northside of between 4th and 5th Street and offers many uses for city residents.


Whether you would like to walk around the quarter-mile pathway, take the kids to the playground, have a picnic, or grow a few vegetables you can do it all at this one location.

The garden spaces are available to rent each year by contacting the parks department. This year, the park seemed to be well utilized with several plots of garden spaces this year.


The parks features birdhouses, beehives, fruit trees, and park benches just to sit and watch the nature around you. An excellent place to relax and have a peace of mind.



Many partners make this park a gem in the community, from City of Bedford, Purdue Extension Agency, North Lawrence Career Center, Bedford Bee Keepers Association and Local Gardening Group just a few of the many organizations that keep the unique.


Park Hours are from 8:00 am to 11:00 pm


Bedford Parks Department upcoming events include:

  • Summer season adult softball has concluded and league tournaments are underway - Fall league deadlines is July 28th

  • New TRX exercise class are on Wednesdays at the Thornton Park Shelter from 4-5 pm Staci Fiddler is the instructor the cost of the course is $120 for the six week class

  • New Chair Yoga - Second session will begin starting August 3rd from 10-11:00 am at Thornton Park Shelter - Cost is $48 for a six week class session

  • Pickleball league is ongoing at Thornton Park on Mondays and Tuesday there are 19 teams taking part in this session

  • Park Outdoors series will be held on July 25th, 6:00 pm at the Otis Park Bath House and is free. The program is "Pioneers of the Lick Creek Settlement" The speaker will be Tesa Villalobos, Forest Archaeologist RSVP by July 24th

  • Running Club - ongoing on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Parkview Track with grade K-6 at 8:00 am
