Bedford Firefighters Respond to Warehouse Fire on Bedford's Northside

BEDFORD - MARCH 6, 2023 - Bedford Fire Department is on the scene of a warehouse fire on Bedford's north side near Fifth Street Monday afternoon.




The employees tried using fire extinguishers to try and get the fire out. The fire finally gave way and destroying the whole warehouse. Firefighters was focusing protecting nearby structures.



At this time, it is not known what caused the afternoon blaze that sent smoke billowing throughout the whole city towards the east.



Several streets are closed in the area which include 5th Street at Indiana State Road 37 and Belback Road, 5th Street at X Street and Belback Road closed at John Williams Blvd.



At this time there are no reports of injuries, but Bedford firefighters are still on the scene.

Bedford Police officers have been busy directing traffic and taking several calls.



Bedford Fire Chief John Hughes was not available to take calls at this time. Firefighters are expected to remain on the scene for several hours.


Bedford Fire Department, Bedford Police Department, IU Lifeline Ambulance responded with two ambulances, and Bedford Street Department was placing barricades on several streets in the area to keep motorists away.


By 5:30 pm most of the fire was contained to the building involved.
