Vicky Schlegel announces her candidacy for Mayor of Mitchell

MITCHELL - JANUARY 12, 2023 - Longtime resident and community volunteer, Vicky Schlegel, is seeking the Republican nomination for Mayor of Mitchell in the May 2 primary.

Vicky Schlegel is running for Mayor City of Mitchell

Vicky is a graduate of Ivy Tech with associates degrees in accounting and business

administration. She also holds certificates she’s earned from Ivy Tech in payroll

and bookkeeping. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in general studies, with

a minor in psychology, from Indiana University Southeast

Vicky is currently employed by Insights Optical in Mitchell, and she has more than

20 years of experience in office management, human resources, payroll,

accounting, accounts receivable, project management and property management.

This experience, combined with her education, makes her the ideal candidate for

the next mayor of Mitchell.

But that’s only the beginning.

Vicky’s passion for Mitchell is in serving the community. She currently volunteers

as the president of the Mitchell Community Public Library’s Board of Trustees. She

has previously served on the board of directors for the Greater Mitchell Chamber

of Commerce, and she was the general chairwoman for the Persimmon Festival in

2009. She has chaired the Persimmon Festival Parade and volunteers infinitely

with the chamber to help the festival each fall. She also created and implements

the Trick or Treating on Main Street each Halloween.

Vicky also led the charge on the construction of the Mitchell Memorial Park in

2002-2003, where she served as the General Chairwoman as the community built

the playground for its youth.

Vicky currently serves on the Mitchell City Council, after she was appointed in

December. She previously served on the Mitchell City Council for four years, with

three of those years as president. She has served on the city’s zoning board, as

well, and has always said “yes” to anything that would help the community of

Mitchell thrive.
