The vehicles and drivers involved were identified as a 2014 Ford Mustang, driven by Matthew Dierking, age 20 of Pekin and a 2015 Dodge Ram 2500, driven by Louis Sikes, age 33 of Sellersburg.

Evidence at the scene and statements from the drivers involved indicate that Sikes was west bound on State Road 60, when the Mustang driven by Dierking came to the stop sign at the intersection of Old Pekin Road and State Road 60. Statements indicate that Dierking proceeded into the intersection attempting to turn south on State Road 60. The two vehicles then collided head-on. Dierking was transported to St. Vincent Hospital in Salem for his injuries that are not believed to be life threatening. Sikes declined medical treatment at the scene.

The crash was investigated by Sgt. Lucas Gray and he was assisted by the Washington County Ambulance Service, members of the Pierce/Polk Volunteer Fire Department and Pekin Town Marshal Jeff Thomas.
